Formed in 2013 by Ailsa Aitkenhead and Emily Tse, Nicolson duo are a bass trombone and piano ensemble. They began this unique collaboration during their time as students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and have since then explored a dynamic range of music from reinterpreting baroque recorder sonatas for sackbut and harpsichord, to contemporary bass trombone and piano compositions. As a duo they have performed extensively, giving recitals at various venues including Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre and St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral as part of Edinburgh Festival Fringe. To represent their Scottish backgrounds the duo is named after Nicolson Square in Edinburgh.
